Federal Institute for Agricultural Economics and Mountain Farming (BAB)
The Federal Institute for Agricultural Economics and Mountain Farming (BAB) is a socio-economic research institute. Its staff focus on current and forward-looking topics in agricultural policy, the food industry, farm management, rural development, and mountain regions.
At the institute, the interactions between agriculture and society are analyzed from various perspectives, and foundations as well as solutions for the sustainable development of rural areas are developed in both national and European contexts. The focus is on a detailed examination of farms, structures, and agricultural systems, as well as a spatially differentiated analysis, with particular attention to the development of mountain regions.
The design, organization, and evaluation of agricultural and rural data in an extensive data pool form an important basis for scientific studies. In addition, the institute’s specialized library systematically documents significant professional literature, serving as a scientific resource for internal and external users.
The BAB is integrated into national and international networks.
