Training to Become a Pedagogically Trained Forest Educator
The Ministry of Forestry offers a dedicated modular certificate course in forest and hunting education. The course is available at the forestry training centres.
Course content such as “Learning and Activity Formats in Forest Education”, “Pedagogical and Didactic Fundamentals” and “Planning and Organisation of Forest Tours” is covered in the one-week basic seminar (Module A – 40 teaching units (TU)). The advanced seminar (Module B – 20 TU) focuses on “Evaluation of Guided Tours”, the development of “Didactic Working Methods”, “Leadership Skills”, “Forestry Content”, etc. This is followed by the advanced specialist seminar (Module C – 20 TU).
People without forestry knowledge are also eligible to participate in this training programme. However, to obtain the certificate, they must complete an additional two-week training course (Module F – 80 TU) and pass an examination.
The advanced certificate “Hunting Educator” (additional qualification as a “Pedagogically Trained Knowledge Mediator in Hunting”) can only be obtained after successfully completing the forest education training, presenting a valid hunting licence and attending Module J (16 TU – 2 days).
Since 2023, all forest educators must also successfully complete Module D – 16 TU, “Biodiversity in the Forest”.
The currently valid guidelines for the courses can be requested from Department III 3.
