Education 2030 Framework for Action

Building on the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005–2014) and the Global Action Programme on ESD (2015–2019), a new framework programme titled ESD for 2030 was adopted for the period 2020–2030 by the 206th UNESCO Executive Board and the 40th UNESCO General Conference, and was acknowledged by the 74th UN General Assembly.
ESD for 2030 ensures the continuation of the goals of the Global Action Programme (WAP), which aimed to align and strengthen education and learning to contribute to all activities that promote sustainable development, with a specific focus on the contribution of education to achieving the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
ESD for 2030 makes a direct contribution to SDG 4 on inclusive and quality education, especially to target 4.7, as well as to all other SDGs, thereby promoting an education that places a strong emphasis on responsibility for the future.
To translate ESD for 2030 into concrete actions for change, this Roadmap elaborates the programme's implementation framework by proposing specific areas of work and intervention to be developed and supported by Member States and relevant stakeholders, including civil society organizations and development partners at regional and global levels.
ESD for 2030 marks the beginning of the "Decade of Action" to accelerate the achievement of all SDGs. Now is the time for every education system to initiate and support the necessary transformation to put our world on a more just and sustainable path.
