Environmental protection at company level / EIA

The protection of our environment and natural resources is a shared responsibility of politics, business and society. Companies, businesses and project developers have a particular responsibility to avoid environmental impacts, use resources sustainably and comply with statutory environmental standards.

Through waste prevention and recycling, the reduction of emissions, the preservation or improvement of water quality, as well as through sustainable business practices, companies can make a significant contribution to environmental protection. Corporate environmental protection encompasses a wide range of measures and legal requirements aimed at avoiding or reducing environmental impacts caused by business activities and using resources efficiently. An important instrument in this context is the EMAS (Eco Management and Audit Scheme) environmental management system. It supports organizations in systematically recording their environmental performance, continuously improving it and reporting transparently on their progress. EMAS helps companies to combine environmental responsibility with economic success and to go beyond statutory requirements.

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)

An Environmental Impact Assessment is intended to assess the potential impacts of a project on the environment. The EIA assesses how a planned project could affect the different environmental protection assets. These include people and biodiversity, including animals, plants and their habitats, land and soil, water, air and climate, the landscape, as well as material and cultural assets. The EIA is a central instrument of preventive environmental protection and provides a sound basis for decision-making in approval procedures. By taking possible environmental impacts into account at an early stage and involving the public, it helps promote sustainable project development and ensure a high level of protection for people and the environment.
