Tips for Responsible Consumption
Opened products cannot always be used up at once. However, this does not automatically mean that leftovers have to be thrown away.
In the articles on proper shopping and proper storage, suggestions have already been made on how to avoid food waste. Here you can read what you can do to prevent waste.
Tip 1: Cooking the right amount is not always easy. However, the more often you cook, the better you can estimate quantities. If you lack experience at first, cookbooks, websites, or online forums can help.
Tip 2: Simply store excess cooked food in the refrigerator or freeze it, and reheat it when needed or turn it into a different, new dish.
Additional tip: If you can plan your week well in advance, it is best to think of complementary recipes. Preparing dishes from the same ingredients or turning leftovers into new meals helps reduce food waste.
Tip 3: Leftovers from preparing meals do not have to end up in the trash. Opened products, fruit, and vegetables can be kept for a while if refrigerated. Leftovers can easily be turned into new dishes or snacks the next day.
Tip 4: Meals are not always eaten at home, but also in inns or restaurants. While food waste cannot be directly controlled there, you can still contribute to improvement. Ordering only as much as you can actually eat already helps a lot. Alternatively, you can have leftovers packed to take home—this is no longer considered improper, but rather a sign of sustainable behavior. And good food can certainly be enjoyed the next day as well.
