Wood goes Europe – The new app of the domestic forestry and timber industry
Why we all live from the forest is shown by the new app “Wood goes Europe.” The forestry associations of Upper Austria and Salzburg present this comprehensive app about the domestic forestry and timber industry, in which Torrent and Avalanche Control as well as the Protective Forest Center also participated as project partners.
FOREST – We All Live From It
The app launches as a pilot project as part of the European Capital of Culture 2024 in Bad Ischl. It aims to bring the forest ecosystem closer to visitors of the Capital of Culture and the Salzkammergut region. The app is intended to make the services of the domestic forestry and timber industry and the forest accessible to everyone.
Choose your guide through the forest ecosystem
Lena, Tim, Julia, and Mr. Bauer are your four guides on the journey through the forest. Each of the four characters has different focal points. If you want to learn about sustainable forest management and timber construction, Julia is your contact person. If you want to understand how complex the forest ecosystem is, visit Lena. Tim and his children experience the forest in the Salzkammergut from their family perspective. Mr. Bauer represents protection against natural hazards and is the historically interested character.
Discover the forest in your living room
Through augmented reality (AR), some forest functions can even be brought into your living room. To activate the AR functions, you simply need to choose an avatar and select and open the so-called key areas.
The hotspots in the forest and event calendar
The forest can also be explored outdoors in the Salzkammergut. The app includes over 100 different visitor points and projects of the forestry and timber industry, so-called points of interest (POIs). These are assigned to the different characters. However, they can also be explored on an overview map.
The app also features an event calendar. Current news and events related to forests and wood are published here.
Pilot project
The app was created as a pilot project as part of the Capital of Culture 2024 in the Salzkammergut. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Regions and Water Management through the Forest Fund, as well as through financial participation by the cooperation platform Forest Wood Paper (FHP). The expertise of all regional project partners has been incorporated: the Austrian Federal Forests, Torrent and Avalanche Control, the Forestry Training Centre Traunkirchen, the Protective Forest Centre, and Hermine Hackl.
Advice
The app can be downloaded free of charge from the respective app store.
