Klimabonus
The Klimabonus was introduced in 2022 as part of the eco-social tax reform. Everybody who had their primary residence in Austria for at least six months in the year of entitlement received a Klimabonus. The bonus was staggered depending on the place of residence and it was paid out automatically, either by bank transfer or in voucher form.
The Klimabonus was limited to the years 2022 to 2024 by an amendment to the Klimabonus Act. This is part of the federal government's restructuring measures as part of the 2025/2026 double budget. Claims for past Klimabonus payments remain valid and can be asserted until December 2027. The prerequisite is that the eligibility requirements were met in the respective year.
Valid claims mainly concern people who did not collect the registered letter with their Klimabonus vouchers from the collection point in time, and the letter was returned as a result. Affected persons can apply for a retroactive payment of the Klimabonus via the contact form on the clKlimabonus website. Claims for outstanding Klimabonus payments can be made until 31 December 2027. After that, the claim expires permanently.
