Methodological assessment of the impact and dependence of business on biodiversity and nature’s contributions to people – Business and Biodiversity Assessment

The 12th Plenary Session of the World Biodiversity Council took place in February 2026 in Manchester, United Kingdom. At the conference, the Summary for Policymakers (SPM) of the so-called Business and Biodiversity Assessment was negotiated.

The Assessment presents the direct and indirect dependencies and impacts of business on and from biodiversity and nature’s contributions to people. It takes ecosystem services and the role of Indigenous Peoples and local communities into account. It also identifies suitable measurement methods and options for action for businesses, policymakers, the financial sector and civil society.

This foundation is intended to provide companies with guidance to help achieve the Vision for Biodiversity 2050 and the goals of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
