Trade in Species / CITES

The Washington Convention on Species Protection (CITES) regulates the international trade in endangered species of wild animals and plants and their products. The convention covers approximately 6,610 animal species and 34,310 plant species that are threatened by international trade. In Austria, the convention has been in force since 1982.
