European Waste Framework Directive

EU Directive No 2011/70/Euratom is intended to ensure a high level of safety in the course of the disposal of radioactive waste throughout Europe.
On 19 July 2011, Directive No 2011/70/Euratom (EUR-Lex) on a Community framework for the responsible and safe management of spent fuel and radioactive waste was adopted. Its purpose is to create a European Community framework to maintain the safety of facilities and activities in the field of radioactive waste management and spent fuel management and to promote the continuous improvement of disposal systems.
According to Article 14 (1) of this Directive, Member States had to submit a report on the implementation of this Directive to the European Commission for the first time by 23 August 2015 at the latest and every three years thereafter. The Republic of Austria of course fulfils this requirement.
