The EU funding programme for innovative demonstration projects

Between 2020 and 2030, the EU Innovation Fund supports demonstration projects that can bring about innovative technologies and groundbreaking industrial innovations aimed at reducing CO2 emissions.

A total of at least 530 million emission allowances from the EU Emissions Trading System (depending on the price of the emission allowances, approximately 40 billion euros in funding) will be available for projects in areas such as the energy-intensive industries, renewable energy generation, CCUS and energy storage.

To this end, calls for proposals are launched annually, once a year, until 2030, typically published in December of each year on the European Commission’s website.

Project applications must be submitted, and the project selection procedure is carried out, directly at the EU level. The EU Innovation Fund is a funding instrument of the European Commission, which is supported in the implementation of the funding by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA). The European Investment Bank (EIB) provides advisory support for the development of projects (Project Development Assistance). Projects can apply for such assistance on the EIB website.

At the national level, interested parties are supported by KPC (Kommunalkredit Public Consulting) —please feel free to contact the KPC’s experts!
