Why climate protection is important

One of the greatest global challenges for environmental protection in the coming decades is undoubtedly the reduction of the human-induced greenhouse effect.

The direct connection between the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and the average temperature on Earth is undisputed by virtually all scientists. Although climate change is generally nothing unusual in Earth's history, human activities are likely to significantly intensify and accelerate any potentially natural warming. Further reduction measures for the period after 2020 are therefore essential at the international level to stabilize the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere at a level that, among other things, allows ecosystems to adapt naturally to climate change.
