Alpine Convention
The Alpine Convention is a pioneer of its kind for sustainable living in the Alps and, as the first international treaty on sustainable development and the protection of an entire mountain range, is a pioneer of its kind.
The Alps are a fascinating and spectacular mountain range stretching across eight countries: Germany, France, Italy, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Austria, Switzerland, and Slovenia. The challenges facing the Alps are often transboundary in nature and can best be addressed through cooperation. For this reason, the eight Alpine countries and the European Union established the Alpine Convention to tackle these challenges together.
Work is being carried out on various fronts in Austria to implement the Alpine Convention.
