Committed to Species Diversity Since 2009
The vielfaltleben campaign celebrated its 10th anniversary at the beginning of 2019 – and we are proud of the wide variety of projects that have been carried out or are ongoing!
Over the past years, more than 50 conservation projects have been implemented across Austria. These projects have led to a sustainable improvement of habitats for over 500 plant and animal species classified as threatened. In the March-Thaya wetlands, 100,000 square meters of new habitats were created for highly endangered amphibians. Additionally, 55 nesting platforms were installed for the Saker falcon. These are just a few examples of success.
Our fauna and flora are threatened worldwide. Approximately 130 species disappear every day. Even in Austria, 4,000 animal and plant species are at risk of extinction. That is why in 2009, the Federal Ministry launched vielfaltleben, the largest domestic species conservation campaign. Since then, the Federal Ministry, the Naturschutzbund, and many other partners have pooled their efforts to counteract the loss of biodiversity and to inform and raise awareness among the public.
