Austrian Conference on Spatial Planning (ÖROK)

The Austrian Conference on Spatial Planning (ÖROK) is an institution supported by the federal government, the states, and municipalities to coordinate nationwide spatial planning.
Spatial planning and regional development are thematic areas or fields of action that are very important in connection with the implementation of sustainable development. Therefore, the Austrian Conference on Spatial Planning (ÖROK) plays a significant role alongside the bodies and institutions directly involved in the planning, coordination, and implementation of sustainable development in Austria.
ÖROK develops and publishes the Austrian Spatial Development Concept. In addition, ÖROK conducts studies and projects related to spatial development policy and serves as an important interface to European regional and spatial development policy.
Within the ÖROK partnership “Soil Strategy for Austria”, the draft of a soil strategy (see below) was technically developed at the administrative level from November 2021 to November 2022 and submitted for political approval. This served as a consultation document for the 27th session of ÖROK on June 20, 2023. On February 29, 2024, the “Soil Strategy” in the ÖROK version of June 2023 was adopted by all federal states at a meeting of the regional planning officers in Upper Austria.
