The United Nations Global Compact is the world's largest initiative for corporate sustainability and sustainable development. The goal of this global movement of business, politics, and civil society is to make globalization more socially and environmentally responsible.

In its function as a UN-mandated network for companies and stakeholders with diverse requirements, the Global Compact Network Austria supports and enables global learning, transformative innovation, and networking among participating organizations.
The overarching goal is the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in line with the 10 universal principles (globalcompact.at).
As of January 1, 2024, the UN Global Compact Network Austria operates under a new structure and has been established as a Branch Office under the Foundation for the Global Compact (FGC) (unglobalcompact.org). The UN Global Compact itself operates under a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly. The relationship between the United Nations and the Foundation for the Global Compact is governed by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
