Bioeconomy Austria

Logo Bioeconomy Austria

is the hub of Austria’s bioeconomy. As a network of networks, the platform connects businesses, research, public administration, civil society, and regions along shared value chains. Its goal: to strengthen regional value creation, increase security of supply, and safeguard the competitiveness of Austria as a business location.

From Network Building to a Nationwide Austrian Cluster

Bioeconomy Austria was launched in 2022 as an initiative of the Austrian Forest Fund, with a focus on wood as a raw material. In the subsequent phase, the platform is evolving into a national bioeconomy cluster and is intended to encompass the full breadth of Austria’s bioeconomy. The project is co-financed by the European Union, the federal government, and the federal states as part of Austria’s CAP Strategic Plan.

Cross-State Cooperation as the Key

Operational responsibility lies with the Bioeconomy Austria association, based in St. Pölten. The consortium brings together ten partners from business agencies, cluster organizations, and specialized institutions: ecoplus. Lower Austria’s business agency, Business Upper Austria, Innovation Salzburg, Holzcluster Steiermark, Green Tech Valley Cluster, proHolz Tirol, Standortagentur Tirol, Wirtschaftsagentur Wien, BioBASE, and the Ökosoziales Forum Österreich & Europa. Beyond the consortium, the network already includes more than 400 partner organizations from research, business, public administration, regions, and civil society. The network is open to all interested organizations.

“Bioeconomy Austria pools the strengths of Austria’s federal states and creates cooperation across sectoral boundaries that no individual federal state or sector could achieve on its own. This collaboration gives rise to the bio-based innovations that enable Austrian companies to succeed in international competition.” – Florian Kamleitner, Chairman of Bioeconomy Austria
