Initiative “Round We Go”

As part of the initiative, exciting examples of circular economy practices are being showcased to demonstrate how collected waste is transformed into new products. Many people are familiar with the classic circular processes – for example, how new glass is made from waste glass or how old paper is turned into new newspapers. However, there are many other fascinating circular processes: valuable raw materials, including even gold, are recovered from waste electrical and electronic equipment; scrap metal is used to produce components for wind turbines; and plastic packaging is transformed into products such as garden furniture or shoe heels.

With “RUND GEHT’S”, together with numerous partner initiatives and companies from Austria’s waste management and circular economy sector, we demonstrate that it pays to collect and separate household waste. Only in this way can valuable raw materials remain in circulation and be used for new products. The aim is to strengthen public awareness that waste contains valuable resources and that proper waste separation is therefore of enormous importance.

Since 2017, “RUND GEHT’S” has been supported by the Austrian Water and Waste Management Association (ÖWAV), the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Coordination Body (EAK), the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKO), and numerous stakeholders from Austria’s waste management sector, including all federal provinces and waste management associations, as well as private companies.
