Food Trade Action Platform
The largest Austrian food companies and the Association of Austrian Food Banks have joined forces to form the "Food Trade Action Platform to Promote Food Bank Work and Avoid Food Waste" and want to provide social organizations with even better access to unsaleable food.
The newly established action platform contributes to achieving the EU-defined target of halving avoidable food waste by 2030. This objective is part of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The "Food Donation Guidelines" recently adopted at the EU level are intended to provide simplification and greater legal certainty in this regard. From the food retail sector, REWE International AG, Spar Austria, Hofer, and Lidl Austria are members of the action platform.
All stakeholders in the food retail industry are invited to become supporting members of the association and thus participate in the "Food Retail Action Platform to Promote Food Bank Work and Prevent Food Waste." Further action platforms in the areas of wholesale, production, agriculture, and community catering are in preparation.
