Beneficial Effects of Compost Application on Fertility and Productivity of Soils

The study summarises the literature and the current knowledge on the effect of compost fertilisation on the soil plant system. After surveying the principle significance of quantity and quality of soil organic matter (SOM) for the maintenance of functions, health and fertility of soil (chapter 2) specific experimental work and studies are examined. This is done by systematically evaluating beneficial effects on relevant soil parameter and plant performance (chapter 3). Every chapter is structured in 3 sections:
- 1. Introduction on the functional importance of the specified parameter (for example SOM, crop yield, plant nutrition, physical soil properties et cetera)
- 2. Exemplary demonstration and summary of characteristic results from literature
- 3. table of literature examined with short description of experimental design and key results
