National Emergency Response Plan - Use of nuclear wapons at a greater distance from Austria

The aim of radiological emergency management is to protect the population and the environment in the event of a radiological emergency. In order to ensure this, the Federal Ministry  involving all federal ministries concerned (see Chapter 2.2), must set up an emergency management system in accordance with the Austrian Radiation Protection Act 2020 (StrSchG 2020) and take appropriate administrative precautions to maintain such a system.

The emergency management system shall be designed according to the results of an assessment of possible emergency exposure situations and shall enable effective response to radiological emergencies.1 An important cornerstone of the emergency management system is the national emergency response plan, which consists of several parts. The national emergency response plan provides the working basis for off-site emergency management at the federal level and ensures a coordinated emergency response of all organizations involved.
