NERP - Events in nuclear power plants and other nuclear facilities

The aim of radiological emergency management is to protect the population and the envi ronment in the event of a radiological emergency. The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Climate and Environmental Protection, Regions and Water Management (BMLUK) has created an emergency management system with the involvement of all federal minis tries concerned. The National Emergency Response Plan is a central element of radiological emergency management at federal level. The National Emergency Response Plan is made up of various parts, each of which deals with the different possible types of radiological emergencies. Such emergencies can be triggered by severe nuclear power plant accidents, but also by other events such as transport accidents or lost radiation sources.
